With most of the Legion warlocks being pretty well balanced, epic Lylyth was not worth taking in many peoples minds. She has undergone multiple changes and her current version is looking pretty good. She was admittedly too good in MKI infantry machine but she was toned down a bit too much IMO. Lets see how she looks now…
Lylyth, Shadow of Everblight
Stat Line – Same
+5 WB Points – Same
Feat – Same
Abilities
- Eyeless sight – Same
- Pathfinder – Same
- Arcane Hunter – Same
- Bullseye – *new* If she aims she also gets an ADDITIONAL die on ranged attack damage rolls. Thats a lot of firepower if you ask me!
- Evasive – Same
- Range Amplifier – *new* If she casts a spell the spell gains 5 inches of range. Very awesome with the likes of Shadowstalk around.
- Swift Hunter – Same
Abilities Lost
- Snap Fire – Would have been over the top if she still had this

Rhyas lost a lot of her damage potential with the lack of weaponmaster. A lot of people also felt like she wasn’t very competitive in MKI and her current state in MKII made her even weaker. I agree because she was very one dimensional in MKI, and she is now even more staight forward in MKII…just worse. Lets see the proposed changes to Rhyas and how she stacks up.
Rhyas, Sigil of Everblight
Stat Line – +1 MAT from previous MKII version
+6 WB points – Same
Feat - Rhyas now benefits from her own feat like she should.
Abilities
Acrobatics – Same
Perfect Balance – Same
Channeler(Saeryn) – Same
Riposte – Same
Sprint – *new* When she kills an enemy model during her activation, she can make a full advance after her activation ends, this is awesome when combined with Acrobatics!

As this was my first Con I didn’t really know what to expect. It was pretty cool seeing all the dressed up people and the displays that many vendors had. It was by no means a large convention but it was nice to get myself into one before going to something like Templecon. Anyways I was here to do some hardcore Warmachining, so let’s get to the action!
Game 1
First game was against Scott B. We have played against each other in just about every tournament so I wasn’t really surprised to see him across the table from me. We always have close, competitive games so I knew this was gonna be a grind. He was playing a melee heavy Khador army led by Sorscha.

NB: This article was written prior to Hammercon09, and is posted as an example of Paul’s list-building process.
Hammercon is coming up and I need to get my lists straight so I can practice with them. The grand prize is a sizable Retribution force and would be a great start to any army. With this in mind I really had to bring my A game to the con. This means either Menoth or Legion. With the success I had with Idrians the last tournament I played Menoth I realized they were my go to guys. When they worked my opponents had fits over them.
The List
This was a 500 point SR4 tournament so epics were out of the question. That leaves me with one really competitive caster that is head and shoulders above everyone else at that level, Kreoss. The feat is the assassination tool, anti-magic pulse helps to get rid of enemy defensive upkeeps on feat turn, Lamentation is just a huge pain to deal with and Protection of Menoth makes any unit much harder to kill. He’s got other spells but those are the ones I use every game.

This was my first tournament at the Duelling Grounds so I didn’t really know what to expect. It was listed as a 350 SR4 but when I went there we ended up doing casterkill all day. Makes sense since its pretty tough for most factions to hold multiple sections or points with 2-3 jacks a piece! Anyway without any more delay, here is how the day went!
Game 1
First game was against a Haley list, I think the opponents name was Brian. He was a new player having only been in the game 3 or 4 months I believe, but we both knew Haley was going to be tough to get through. Anyways here’s his list…

With the recent changes to Absylonia, I needed to take another look at her MKII stats and see how they hopefully improved her…
Absylonia, Terror of Everblight
Stat Line, Warbeast points, Feat - Same as her previous MKII version
Abilities
Abomination – Same
Attuned Spirit[Lesser] – *new* casts a lesser animus for free, pretty nifty, saves a fury
Resourceful -*new* she can upkeep spells on her battlegroup for free, even MORE fury efficiency here
Spontaneous Mutations
- Barbed Hooks: Gains Reach
- Flight: self explanatory
- Warp Strength: +2 STR
Weapons
Blight Claws – Same as previous MKII version
Spells
- Blight Field – Still the same awesome spell
- Carnivore – *new* +2 to MAT when attacking living models and Absylonia heals D3 when you box one. A very good spell against Hordes and any infantry squads you might be playing against.
- Forced Evolution – *new* +2 STR and DEF. Wow, this spell totally rocks with any of our heavies, but especially the Typhon and Angel IMO. Boosting their already respectable defense and power even higher is just nuts!
- Playing God – Same

This battle plan is written after the tournament took place but is an accurate reflection on my preparation for the tournament, enjoy!
Time to switch gears back to Legion again. There is an upcoming MM/T&C 350 point tournament. When it comes to this type of format, my Menoth and Cygnar armies are totally outclassed by the Legion. With weapons like the Angelius and Carnivean among many other things, they have my vote for this type of tournament. Menoth has no choir or vassal so they are in trouble and my Cygnar army isn’t fleshed out enough to make the lists I would like to make.
First thing to do is determine which warlocks are competitive in this format. Saeryn is very powerful, especially against Hordes in this format, Vayl has a great time with her flying circus, Thaggy’s feat is pure awesome, adding another Carnie or Angel to your army and Rhyas can just end the game by herself. I haven’t had enough time to play Abby yet so I wouldn’t feel comfortable using her and I don’t like Lylyth in this format, maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t be competitive with her.
I have always wanted to try Rhyas popcorn and I think this is the perfect format to try it out. With that in mind here is 350 points of Rhyas and Shredders…

The last installment for the warlocks of MKII, here are the Messiah, Shadow and Terror of Everblight!
Thagrosh, the Messiah
Stat Line – Same as before, still kills anything he wants to kill.
+3 WB Points – This is the least amount of WB points in all of Hordes. The one exception is epic Kaya but she comes with Laris so that more than makes up for it. Big Thag daddy comes with less WB points for a reason though…
Feat – Same feat as before except it only affects his battlegroup. No difference in single lock games but it is important to make that distinction.

Continuing from last time, we have the Evolution warlocks Rhyas and Saeryn!
Rhyas, Sigil of Everblight
Stat Line – Same stat line as before, she always had a good stat line for what she did so I didn’t expect any changes here.
+6 WB points – This is a very nice discount on warbeasts, she will still need infantry to mitigate her low fury and beast handling though.
Feat - This feat got toned down and it was expected. The teleporting Warchiefs were what really opened everyones eyes to this powerful MKI feat. The new version still grants you one additional melee attack, but you are limited to one teleport and it is only when you box a model. This feat will require very good timing and setup to use it at its potential.

As Gday is looking at the Trolls and MenothJohn is hitting up Circle, I am attempting to look at all that Legion has to offer in MKII and see how it stacks up against MKI, if it is balanced and if the models I look at are still competitive. This is gonna be really important for me since it will help me decide which armies and which lists I will be bringing to Templecon. I am going to try to look at these as objectively as possible and I appreciate any feedback you guys reading can give me! Thanx and enjoy…
Lylyth, Herald of Everblight
Stat Line – Same as before, so I can’t complain. It is a good stat line for a ranged warlock, with a typical defense and armour for most Legion locks.
+6 WB Points – Great, this is as much as can be expected. Only Rhyas has as many beast points as she does so she will be able to take more beasts than most other Legion warlocks.
