Idrians, Show me Whatcha Got!

This battle plan is written after the tournament took place but is an accurate reflection on my preparation for the tournament, enjoy!

With the recent disappointment of my Menites last tournament I was determined to perform better with them this time around. The next Day of Valour was going to be a 750 point SR4 tournament, the first SR4 and 750 for HK since I’ve been there. With that I wanted to take advantage of using epic casters which means I had a choice between Sevvy, Kreoss, Testament or Feora.

The Testament doesn’t really appeal to me although he is supposed to be a solid tournament caster. I can see why, with an amazing feat and the ability to revive with tricky placement, he can cause trouble for opponents even if they know what to expect. I love me my Knights Exemplar so I definitely wanted to use eKreoss and his elite cadre. That leaves eFeora and eSevvy. Another thing I wanted to test out was the famed “Brokeness” of the Idrians+UA that the privateer press forums Menoth community was raving about, and since one of their few weaknesses would be mitigated with eSevvy’s spell CoF (Courage of Faith), eSevvy was an obvious choice.

Hard questions

I was chatting with Clayton of Iron Kingdom Adventures the other day, and he asked me a very simple question pertaining to a discussion I’d already had with MenothJohn. We’d been talking about the possibilities for the new Menite warcaster to be released with Mk II, and the question was this:

What would I like to see, as my dream ‘caster?

Well, thought I, I already have Severius and eFeora, what more could I want? One’s full of spell-slinging support goodness (oh, how I love to arc Ashes To Ashes through Blessing of Vengeance), the other’s a veritable avatar of flame, with her lovely flameguard units in support.

So the pondering continued. What, specifically, DO I want to see in the new warcaster?

Comic Natterings: Motion Comics?

Every once in a while I wander through iTunes to see if there’s anything that catches my eye to download. This time around, I came across Marvel Comic’s “Spider-Woman: Agent of Sword”.

Ooh, thought I. Something focussing on Jessica Drew post-her-life-being-screwed-over-by-the-Skrulls. Sure, they were tossing in Flavor Of The Month S.W.O.R.D., but I was intrigued enough by the promise of a potentially interesting story, and my curiosity was piqued over how they were going to pull it off on my iPod.

Okay, the animation’s like some of the older cartoons where you’ve basically got one still image moving in front of another. Maintains the integrity of the original art (by Alex Maleev) while giving your eyes something to follow while you’re listening to the dialogue and sound effects.

WMHC2: Zerkova’s Zerkomrades 500pts

The second backup participant entering the ring this time around brings with him the bitter chill of Khador’s Greylords. With this list, we officially wish Cozmo and Luckystrike the best, but sadly bid them farewell from the challenge. Instead, we’re left wondering why a guy with the handle “Cygnar Warlord” spends more time playing one of the best painted Talion Charter armies I’ve ever seen, and has chosen to play Khadorans in the challenge!

Zerkova looked over the battlefield with a look of pleasure. “It was under their very noses all along.” Mud spread in every direction with giant craters and the detritus of the last season’s foray into the south. A few saplings had stubbornly rooted themselves only to be trampled by the lumbering form of Beast-09 on loan from Kommander Sorscha. Though the two women had little in common, they did share an affinity with the aptly named iron monster.

Zerkova

Grigorovich lowered his spy glasses, grimaced and approached the Greylord battle mistress. “Begging your pardon Kommander but the men are getting restless. We’ve been moving steadily southward with no sign of the enemy. The men are itching for a fight and its about time they got one.”

 

Grigorovich nodded his head in respect as well as humility. He knew that Zerkova was mindful of the men under her command and did not squander life as freely as Khador’s other commanders. “So, with that in mind, what are we looking for exactly? This battlefield has been picked clean and the enemy lies many leagues to the south.”

Day of Valour X: Lessons Learned

Time to finish up what I started. Keep in mind this tournament ran about two months ago, so if you need a refresher on my pretournament write-up just click on my name on the side and you can see it!

So I entered the tournament with hopes of bringing the Protectorate some gold at our local Day of Valour tournament. I had been having some success lately with these tournaments so I thought I could bring the pain with my Menoth. There were a decent amount of participants, about twelve people so a decent turnout and a good crowd to test my lists against. Here’s how it went!

Game 1

My first game was against someone that I have played against in every DoV. We have a lot of experience against each other and it’s always a close game when we play. The scenario was a variant on a CtA scenario called “Here Be Monsters”. In that scenario players would choose a non character jack/beast to be the “Monster”. This monster was impervious to every effect except for anything that originated from the other monster. In this variant, you could choose any non character / unique jack / beast or non character warrior model. Primary victory involved killing the opposing monster and the secondary victory condition was casterkill. He was running a Skorne force with Hexeris at the helm. I believe his list was as follows…

WMHC2: Calandra’s Cohort 500pts

One of the vagaries of real life is that people aren’t always able to maintain their commitments. Try as we might, there’s only so much time in the day, and there are other demands on our time than small metal dudes. Hard to believe, I know, but there you have it.

Unfortunately, this has led to a change in the participants in WMHC2. Please welcome instead, jumping in at the last minute, Derrick “Moonova” Gibson and his Trollish shenanigans.

Brun looked up at her. “I have short legs and you be troll, fast be a relative term as they say.”

“That be true,” replied Calandra looking over her warpack and outriders. Yelling out “Horthol keep your eyes open and sharp you be the only warning we have.

I have been asked to stand in about 6 hours ago. I apologize for the half hearted write up. Though I do like to get all flowery I didn’t have much time having to work and all. Enough crying though, I can’t wait to get involved and thanks for letting me step up, G’Day.
