I don’t care what faction you play…

July 30, 2009

Whether you’re playing Retribution or not – this guy, Adeptis Rahn, looks awesome.

He’s like, half Ravyn, half Mittens, all freakin’ dripping in awesomsauce.

So much so, I had to make this, despite my not self-imposed ban on making banners while I’m editting King of the Mountain stuff… I’m such a naughty bloke…

I may have been here or there on Vyros and Kaelyssa’s models, but the rest of the Retribution warcasters are spiffy keen. I have to wonder though – every other Warmachine faction has a large-base warcaster. Will Retribution get one to??

Welcome to the Blight Side of Things

July 29, 2009

ultimate58Hey all! Before you start seeing my random posts on this blog I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  I am Paul, fellow gamer at the same FLGS as Gday and Spud, as well as many other frequent visitors of this blog.

I’ll be blogging about Warmachine and Hordes 99.9% of the time just to get that out in the open. My background in this game was primarily Menoth but I find myself giving into the blight more often than not. After starting Legion I found that I was most comfortable with more of a finesse playstyle, using speed and power to hit hard and hit first. These are things that both Legion and Cryx excel at.

I also find myself dabbling in Cygnar and Mercs once in a while. After playing Cygnar a while, I really enjoyed the ranged options they had and thats the way I play with them. Shooty with some board control to back it up, Cygnar does this the best out of any factions IMO.

I’ve been playing warmachine for 4 years now and have had some success at it so far. It’s my first tabletop game so I think I’m doing pretty good for myself.  My hobby addictions started with Pokemon about 10 years ago(wow am I really that old?) then moved onto Magic and now I’m here…

I hope this intro didn’t bore everyone too much and until next time!

Summer Rampage: Let’s clip some wings

July 28, 2009

(*Paraphrased/Crossposted from PP’s forums*)

Reading Bobby Hostile’s overture to the Kriels reminded me of my experiences with a wonderful game that’ll cost you friendships – Diplomacy. It’s all about how well you can manipulate others into helping you conquer the map, holding them off until you can backstab them without fear of any reprisal effort large enough to capsize you.

I’ve played the game a lot, and despite random allocations of countries, 9 times out of 10 I get stuck in the middle of the bloody map as Germany.

When you play the same country so many times, you get a good feeling for just where your breaking points are… as such, I’ve won a lot of games as Germany.

Trouble is, when you win the game, at the next session every other player starts the game knowing that you’re the biggest threat – you may not be the single most experienced player, you may not be the best player, but what experience you do have combines beautifully with your setup…

… and in a game where convincing people to be your allies is key, convincing anyone to ally with you is very difficult; every other bloody player wants to team up against you and take you out asap, so that they can go about enjoying the game at their own pace.

Cygnar’s in that boat now.

Too MANY CHOICES!!!! Ok…I’m better now…kthx.

July 27, 2009

[Editor's note: This was written well in advance; MenothJohn stepped up to the plate to help cover for me while I was on vacation, for which I am very grateful. The post would have gone up earlier, but King of the Mountain will not be denied! Please enjoy this little insight into MenothJohn's list building and thought processes. - Gdaybloke]

As I write this…it is about noon on Saturday July 18, 2009.  I have too many choices on my hands.  It’s all my fault.  I am the one that muscled up to three factions.  The problem is my old nemesis…350 MM / T&C.

In the Red Corner…Representing the Menoth Division of the PKA Alliance…Big Rez and Da Boyz

In the Green Corner…Representing Trees and Wurms Everywhere…Smooth Top and his Constructs…

Stranded… (rant warning)

July 26, 2009

The Gdayclan have been on vacation for the last week; you may have surmised this from the number of posts ably provided by MenothJohn, who receives two thumbs up for helping provide coverage while my family and I escaped to Quebec City to take in some history and try to find some maple crepes.  We’ve had a handful of hiccups, but everything was by and large acceptable until we received an email on Wednesday notifying us that the train engineers may be going on strike at Friday Noon.

You know what? It sucks that the engineers et al haven’t had a contract for the last few years… but when their strike strands people on vacation, and their only attempt at compensation is “we’ll waive the usual cancellation/rebooking fee on your ticket when you apply for the refund”, the lose any sympathy I might have had for them.

My family and I bought our tickets over a month ago; we arrived in Quebec City last Monday. If we didn’t have the wife’s laptop, we would not have received any communication from VIA Rail; we would have found out about the strike when we went to the station on Sunday to catch our return train, having packed everything up, left the hotel with kids in tow et al… we would have been stuck on the platform.
