Menoth forgive me, it’s another Trollblood post.
It’s a truism that knowing your foe can be the key to victory. What you don’t know really can hurt you, and this will naturally lead me to purchase more army books than merely those of the factions I play…
… but more to the point, I’ve had a few back-and-forths with blogging pal CerealJohn about his plans for an upcoming escalating tourney. In an effort to help him out, I took the time to look at some of the cards newly in my possession, and I noticed something that I’m sure every Trollblood player already knows about. Forgive me, Trollkin, I’m new at this.
Madrak Ironhide can throw Rathrok 8″, for a P+S 15 biff.
A friendly Impaler can up the range to 12″.
A friendly Mauler can up the P+S to 18.
Okay, that’s pretty sweet. With 6″ of movement Madrak has a potential 18″ threat range with Rathrok at P+S 15, or if he opts for the strength boost he drops back to 14″ threat range and can hit hard enough to do straight dice on most heavy warjacks. Of course, he can boost the damage if he really wants to rub it in.
The killer though, is the Ricochet.
Madrak walks his 6″, lobs Rathrok a healthy 12″ (thanks to the Impaler), and then your warcaster, who was peeking out from behind the warjack, catches an axe in the head. Yes, Madrak still needs to roll to hit with a RAT of 5, but we’re talking taking a shot at the opposing warcaster or warlock at up to approx 24″ away (18″ threat range + width of target base + 4″ richochet).
Heaven forbid if Madrak was able to stand still and take the shot, flinging that dirty great axe at a boostable RAT 7 to hit.

- Madrak’s right hand can’t let you do that, Dave…
I’m still planning on focussing on Grim Angus as my Trollblood warlock of choice, but it’s nice to know there’s some potential awesomeness right out of the battlebox.
