The Highball Curse – pick your pony

In Marvel Evolution there are 110 rares.

Of these 110 rares, 8 are characters with a cost of 8 or more. For those who like percentages, that’s 7.27%.

In a single booster box, there are 24 rares. Based on the above percentage, one would assume that, on averages and assuming even distribution of rares across the expansion, I should be looking at 1.75 characters with a cost of 8 or more. Let’s round it up to 2, just because I don’t think anyone would really want to open a booster to find .75 if a card.

Finances being what they may, I’m unable to pick up half a case in one hit this time around, so I’m picking up a box here, a box there – that sort of thing. Behold the 24 rares I pulled from my first box.

The more astute among you will have already noticed – no less than 5 character cards with a cost of 8 or more (yup, no 7’s in the 7/8 row), for a total of 21% of the box’s rare count. Instead of their being one 8+ drop in each 13-14 packs, I found one in every 4-5 packs.

Oh, and I picked up a copy of Danger in my five packs for sealed last night. Again, one 8+ in 4-5 packs.

This pretty much follows the pattern for me for the last few expansions, where I’d end up with an inordinate amount of high-drop rare characters. I think I ended up with five MUN Sleeper’s at one point. I know I got three MUN Sentry’s, and I still have Fin Fang Foom’s in my trade list.

Well, MEV is a new set, the race is on, and it’s your turn.

Based purely on pulls from packs, which 8+ drop will be the first to reach a full playset in my binder?
