Answering the Call: Twofer!

October 26, 2008

Well, well, look who crawled out of his deathbed and sent me a couple of files… well, to be precise, look who’s still convalescing and having his lovely companion send me a couple of files…

Yup, Aaron’s under the weather, but like a good little thylacine he still managed to get his responses to the last two Gauntlets written up.

True, he’s still bound by the terms of the gauntlet to perform a Broadway chorus for us at BOTB, but at least he doesn’t have to refer to himself in the third person.

First we vintage Darkseid melded with DLS Legion, and then we take a look at DGL’s Anti-Matter…

Darkseid Loves The Clubs

With the removal of almost every notable cosmic Darkseid’s elite character from this challenge, i was forced to look at building around some very specific card interactions.

My final decision?

Beta Club Abuse.

For me, Beta Club was the card I always seemed to have an excuse to put on the backburner, But images of 3 characters team attacking, each with a club in hand on a 7 drop for 28 damage would sometimes keep me awake at night.

Ok, not really. But you get the idea.

The premise is simple, really. legionnairs like to do 2 things:

1- they like to control stunbacks on initiative

2- They love the team swing.

The deck COULD have been more intense with an essay about how to get the best possible use out of Anti-Matter Equations, but to be frank, beta club is simpler in a byott build like this, and it really shreds out some big numbers.

Take a peek!

Gone Clubbin!

CHARACTERS (33)
3x Jazmin Cullen <> Kid Quantum
3x Triad
1x R.J. Brande
1x Dream Girl
3x Apparition
3x Sensor
4x XS
2x Shrinking Violet
2x Mantis, Power Parasite
4x Connor Kent <> Superboy
4x Brainiac
2x Darkseid, Uxas
1x Colossal Boy

PLOT TWISTS (20)
4x Die for Darkseid!
4x Omega Beams
4x Hordes of Apokolips
4x New Recruits
4x Long Live the Legion

EQUIPMENT (4)
4x Beta Club

LOCATIONS (4)
4x Legion World

As you can see its a multiple stun cost damage Bonanza. With the easy to use readying tricks of xs, and superboy, it’s usually easy to justify long live the legion to ensure your readying character will survive the hit. Between 4 beta clubs and 4x Legion worlds a typical turn 5 will see a 5 drop stun for 15 damage, and then Connor Kent looks for even more retribution. Club-style. for another easy 8 damage. Of course, i’ll let your minds wander as you ponder a possible 4 clubs and a legion world on your own time.

Anti-Matter Om Nom Nom

Now For anti matter universe abuse i’m unsure about whether or not the “whenever an opponent draws” trigger effect will differentiate effects causing more than one piece of card draw. However, even assuming it only will burn for each draw effect as opposed to each card drawn, this is still a veritable burn machine.

If draw = burn, where else to look for help than Injustice Gang? Gluttony has done some damage before but now i give you:

Death by Sandwich

CHARACTERS (30)
12x Shadow Creatures
3x Infernal Minions
1x IQ, Ira Quimby
4x Lex Luthor, Nefarious Philanthropist
2x Shadow-Thief, Carl Sands
4x Mantis, power parasite
1x Dr. Light, Light Shaper
2x Lex Luthor, Metropolis Mogul
1c Circe, Evil Enchantress

PLOT TWISTS (22)
4x Gang-up
4x Criminal Mastermind
4x Secret Files
4x Rain of acorns
3x evil Genius
3x Nero Unleashed

LOCATIONS (8)
4x Hard-Light Storage Tank
4x Anti-Matter Universe

So the Premise here is simple.

Use the tools available to you to flood the hidden area with the weenies you need to get your anti-matter burn started. Keep your inits under control with Rain of Acorns, and in a pinch, Doctor light himself comes to the party on occasion for some serious off-init board control on the defensive turns, and from turn 4 onwards you’re typically going to see anywhere from 3 to 6 draws triggering the burninator fun. Even though it feels like a stall, most of the targetting effects are only there to lure out the Pathetic attempts while setting up the Circe Finish. I

If you want to throw this together however, i’d recommend finding a build that justifies running either World War 3, or perhaps All too Easy. Heck maybe even both!

As for Nero Unleashed, a hidden 3 drop Lex is just frikken HILARIOUS. Now GO! look it up! Yes my children, go…

MWAHAHAHAHA!
Yet another Lex-oriented deck serves up a huge answer to a challenge.

Till next time guys.
