This week, we demanded Aaron make us an X-Men/Morlock deck for the BYOTT format, but we complicated issued by removing the obvious Evasion Weenie deck to capitalise on X-Men Assemble. You have no idea how hard that was for me, with my love of Evasion decks…

A few things before I begin.

First off…
-evasion is over-rated.

Second…
-search is over-rated too.

Raise your hand if you remember X-Force!!

In the spirit of an old friend’s favorite build. One who passed on in the early years of VS, I humbly present to you:

BRUTE FORCE

Every once in a while…

October 12, 2008

… you find a hidden gem. Okay, it wasn’t exactly  hidden, but regardless…

Out and about with the Gdaykids today, we hit the local Zellers – a Canadian department store, same concept as Wal-Mart and Target and all of those things. With the kids in tow, it was no surprise to find myself in the toy section.

I always give the action figured a glance, so I looked down the aisle to find… comics, bagged and boarded, hanging on the display racks.

I stroll down the aisle and see a Longshot action figure, and immediately think of Stu. Then I think “Hang on… that’s from the Mojo series, released a few years back, what’s it doing here?”

I flick through the display, to find one copy of each and every figure from the series – including the alternate versions of Falcon, Baron Zemo, and…

YOINK! Alternate Original Armour Iron Man! Yay!

Alright, so it’s got nothing to do with VS, I was still geeky happy to get it. Besides, now I have the this version, the Hulkbuster, and the Modern Armour versions. Now, if I can get up the gumption to crack it from the packaging, each of the kids can play with Iron Man, and I’ll still have one myself.

(*geeks*)

Summer of Love: The Final Stretch

October 12, 2008

Well, folks, here we are.

It’s been a long run, many games. Predictable victories hand in hand with upsets.

A whole bunch of people won door prizes along the way, and truth be told there’s more to go yet, but I’m saving those to be handed out with the grand prize announcement.

And now, we’re down to just two decks, competing to win the title and take home the crown.

From the Orchid Division of the Corsage Conference, Kamiza’s Family of One stomped on Green Weakness, sank the boot into HK KO, and lured Stranger Danger into a dark alley before beating the snot out of it, before sapping the speed out of Warp Factor 9 to take the conference title.

From the Bouttoniere Division’s Calla Lily Conference, Kansashoop’s Adamantium Skrullmate proved that the Secret Invasion really is happening as it carved up the Claw Society, locked the Box Full of Evil, psychoanalysed Looney Bin and finally clipped the wings of the New Birds to cinch their conference crown.

We now enter the final week of betting, where participants will be expected to decide a lot more than simply who they think will win the match. Spud will be posting the details at VSRealms shortly…

Not only do we have a week full of wild speculation to look forward to, amidst all the MEV previews and hullabaloo, but you really have to wonder just what we’re going to do to follow up on the precedent set by our outstanding, award-winning March Madness video finale*…

* Alright, I admit it, the video didn’t actually win any awards… but you know as well as I do that it SHOULD have dammit!
