Throwing Down the Gauntlet

August 25, 2008

Despite his having less hair follicles than a lump of basalt, Aaron Mead remains one of the most inspired deckbuilders I’ve ever had the pleasure to envy. He may not build award winning stuff, but he consistently comes up with synergies and combos that boggle the mind.

You may be aware of his work on It’s A VS Life, where he’s been slacking hideously lately, like someone who hideously slacks.

Enough. Aaron, I’m calling you out, you filthy no-good solar-panelled-forehead-with-a-girlfriend-who-plays-VS.

You have one week – that’s seven days, you rebel scum –  to build a viable deck around the criteria of my choosing. Succeed, and I’ll post it here for your glory and edification. Fail, and I’ll start sending you topless photo’s of Spud.

Build me a viable Namor Legend deck, utilising Atlantean Soldiers.

I don’t care if it’s Golden, Silver, or Modern – hell, make a variant for all three if you like – but it’s gotta have them fishboys.

If you want to get tricky, you could even try building it around the new Clone Saga format.

You have your mission! Go, you filthy rat, go!

SoL Rnd 1: Hitler’s Watch vs Box Full of Evil

August 25, 2008

It’s funny how you end up cheering for one deck or another based purely on the personality behind it. On the one hand here we have Jason Hager, master deckbuilder and guy who’s won more accolades in this game than I could ever hope to; on the other hand we have the voice that was the purest form of optimism for so long, Rian Fike, championing the Damn Nazi’s in memory of their purple robot counterparts, the Wild Sentinels.

Even more amusing in this random matching is that we have the opposing BPRD and Thule Society squaring off in the first round. Will the forces of good prevail, or will the forces of evil ensure there is no third Hellboy movie???

Box Full Of Evil (myself) wins initiative, and opts for Evens, leaving Hitler’s Wristwatch (Spud) with Odds. I keep my opening hand, while Spud mulligans.

Turn One:

A nazi saunters out, unopposed, and kicks me in the proverbials.

Wristwatch: 50
Box of Evil: 48
