A little more Hobby League
July 9, 2008… because, clearly, I didn’t give you enough with last night’s post.
I’m sure you’ve clued in by now that Pablo, Spud and I are the core three members of our Hobby League, and it’s not uncommon for us to play three-player free-for-alls.
Last night, we saw my MUN Avengers vs Spud’s Warbound Hulk vs Pablo’s Multi-Magneto’s.
Two factors made this game a delight.
The first:
Pablo and his family recently returned from Peru… with gifts! Yay! For Spud, it was a delightful little toy llama. As the game progressed, Hulk: Green Scar showed up… and needed a gamma counter… or rather, a llama counter.
The second:
An epic battle! Green King vs Hero for Hire!
Spud declared quite smugly that his 17/17 Hulk: Green King had all the answers he’d need to handle any potential threat from Luke Cage: Secret Avenger.
Never one to back down from such a challenge, especially considering I had multiple pumps in my hand, I just had to see how far I could push my luck.
Going into the combat step, I had something like 15 Endurance, Spud had 6.
- Luke declares into Hulk.
- Luke plays The Big Three, replacing resources to boost Wolvie for a followup attack if need be. Gets a second Big Three, uses it; Luke is now 17 ATK, enough to stun Hulk.
- Hulk plays Hulk Red for a defensive boost to dodge the stun.
- Luke plays Blinding Rage- he wants that sucka’!
- Hulk plays Bloodsports, essentially a reset.
- Luke, still at 17ATK thanks to the Big Three’s, redeclares.
- Hulk powers up to dodge again.
- Luke breaks out a Savage Beatdown.
- Hulk plays Righteous Anger, again to approximate a reset.
- Luke declares once more into Hulk, still at 17ATK
- Hulk powers up yet again.
- Luke drags out Savage Beatdown,
- Hulk plays Strongest One There Is, taking 6 pts of stun damage to KO Luke.
End result: Three attempts to stun Hulk and Luke never succeeded… but the 6 damage from Strongest One There Is put Spud on 0 and out of the game.
Pablo then went on to win the game, but heck, it was a titanic tussle, and worthy of note
