The bigger they are, the more I wanna play ‘em

May 26, 2008

I was cruising the blogosphere, and as I was passing over StuBarne’s Full.Body.Transplant my mind turned to Army characters. I rarely play them, being addicted to Curve decks as I am.

Manhunters and Anti-Green Lanterns are obviously an exception to my curve addiction.

Of course, any time my thoughts turn to my beloved red robots, I cry a little inside that we’ve never been able to really make a Curve Manhunter deck. Sure, Curve Sentinels wreaked havoc, but what about DC’s robotic menace?

All of this took me to DocX’s search engine (donate, you fools!) and well, did you know there’s over a dozen Army characters out there that hit the deck at 4 or higher?

At 4:

  • Elimination Protocol @ OMAC Robot (Checkmate)
  • Manhunter Excavator (Manhunters)
  • Bloodthirsty Werewolves (Thule Society)
  • Lunatic Legionnaires (Kree)
  • Robot Enforcer (Doom)
  • Ultron (Doom)
  • Sentinel Mk IV (Sentinel)
  • Sentinel Mk V (Sentinel)
  • Sentinel Mk VI (Sentinel)

At 5:

  • Annihilation Protocol @ OMAC Robot (Checkmate)
  • Manhunter Giant (Manhunters)
  • Kreigaffes (Thule Society)
  • Kree Public Accusers (Kree)
  • Ultron @ Ultron 11 (Doom)
  • Robot Destroyer (Doom)

So how’s that for a kicker? Not only do the Sentinels miss out on a 5-drop Army character, they’re not even the team with the most Army options at 4+.  Doom wins out.

Personally, I’m bored with Doom winning out. I hereby issue a challenge. The first person to email me a functional decklist that relies on either the Thule or Kree army characters wins something from my collection of prize cards. Exactly what they win is dependent on how well their deck performs - I’ll take it to hobby league to kick the tires.

The deck MUST utilise both the 4- and 5-drops from the chosen team as part of its strategy, and entries must include the deck’s theory/strategy.

Entries and fan mail can be emailed to losthemisphere@gmail.com

  1. I have a meh, mono Thule army deck at home. I’ll send it if I can find it after work.

  2. Sent you a deck that uses the Kree 4/5 army drops to it’s advantage!
