Thursday 13 #15: What are YOU looking at?
May 21, 2008One of the most entertaining things for a blogger is seeing all the wierd and wonderful things that crop up in the search query stats. Just what are people typing into their search engines? What unintentional phrases are bring you the mad hits, yo?
Thus, for this week’s Thursday Thirteen, a stroll through some of my favourite terms and phrases that have brought stray wanderers to the Lost Hemisphere.
1 War Machine - No doubt thanks to the Iron Man movie, War Machine (and Warmachine, War Muchuin, and an abundance of other badly spelt variants) has become by far the most popular search term here at Lost Hemisphere. So much so that my very first Thursday Thirteen has now received over 1400 hits - over four times as many as the March Madness finals video, and it has even managed to eclipse the MUN Vision preview as the single most popular post on Lost Hemisphere. I… I don’t know whether to he proud of that or not. Heh.
2 Manatee Flatulence Sound - This one has my mind reeling. Not only do I have no idea what a Manatee’s rectal erucation would sound like, I really can’t fathom why anyone would WANT to know!

3 Ninja Running - Okay, this one was a little random. Ninja, generally known for skulking, striking from the shadows, and all that jazz, but someone was looking for a more athletically inclined assassin I guess. Next, I expect to find “Ninja hurdling”, “Ninja sprinting”, and “Ninja shot-putting”.
4 Gdaybloke/Lost Hemisphere - this is an amalgam of multiple searches, but there’s something extremely gratifying to know that someone out there was very specifically searching for this blog. It’s a validation for all the hours spent typing up rambling mumblings in the hope that someone, somewhere, finds them entertaining. To these visitors, my thanks.
5 Fancy Dan - Crime Lords Month is justified! I delight in the D-Listers, and it’s thrilling to know that someone other than my Crime Lords Month partner in crime, Runaway, loves the Enforcers enough to try searching for them. Admit it, it’s the dapper hat. It calls to you. Beckons.
6 Susil Kumar Jena Caption Contest - This one is really looking for a quite specific post. Well, more accurately, a comment. Not only here, but on other Caption Contests on other blogs. The thing that piques my interest? This exact query was used not once, not twice, but five times in one day. Susil Kumar Jena, thank you for the additional hits, and feel free to pitch in for this week’s Caption Contest!
7 Zdjęcia Gladiator - As near as I can tell, this one was looking for a foreign language version of the movie Gladiator. Apologies to the multilinguists out there, I’m afraid I don’t know the language… but some poor sap ended up at my Crime Lords Month post on Daredevil’s foe/ally Gladiator instead of their Russell Crowe movie. Oop!
8 Warren Worthington III In Love - Indulging a little fantasy, perhaps? Everyone has their favourite characters, but some people have their favourite characters, if you know what I mean
9 The Main Character In The Black Panther - Call me blunt, but wouldn’t you think the main character in The Black Panther was… um… The Black Panther?
10 Hate Aeromarine - You know what this means? This means someone else out there loves Nextwave! Whooo! The most fun comic of the last decade, it deserves the love. Pure butt-kicking, no unecessary drama, not drowing in continuity, just plain FUN.
11 What Does Kirigi Mean - Buggered if I know! All I know it as, is the pinkish-garbed master assassin of the hand, ably rambled about by Crime Lords Month guest writer KaleeshWarrior.
12 Deckcheck - I so hope this means someone was looking for the March Madness posts, not that someone had somehow forgotten the end of the url for deckcheck.net. That’d just be embarassing.
13 Rhynochocyon Udzungwensis - This one had to go on the list. Aside from it first appearing to be a random jumble of syllables, this search term was the first one to bring more than just a couple of hits to the Lost Hemisphere. Our first term to break the double digits. Sure over time it’s been trampled by War Machine, and even Ambush Bug, but it still holds a place of honour.
And there you have it. Onward!

Great TT. #2 is so funny. LOL!! Happy TT
LOL! I like seeing what terms have been searched for on the computers at work. My coworkers are strange!
I never cease to be amazed at what people search for.
Hilarious.
Manatee Flatulence?
Can’t beat it - right?

Manatee flatulence… that’s a winner. Happy TT.
I’m not sure how to check this, but the most hit title I have is “13 colors I’m not painting my bathroom in the near future”
Ha Ha this one Rhynochocyon Udzungwensis was by far my favorite. Great idea for a TT.
Ok. that is one bizarro list
Rhynochocyon Udzungwensis??????
Happy TT
I know what you mean! And then there are the entries that leave you thinking, “Wait, come back!” And you wonder if what you had was of any use. Interesting items, here!
Oh my too funny and Manatee Flatulence Sound is so bizarre
Who searches for these things? #2 still has me laughing. Why would anyone search that?
What always amazes me are the ones where my blog is on the 38th page of search results–somebody was REALLY desperate to find something. I hope they found it.
I haven’t checked mine in a while. I should–it’s always entertaining.
Manatee Flatulence Why????? I guess I really don’t want to know. Happy TT
I just checked mine and got “rat body build” followed by “must watch english romantic movies with”.
Good times.
I got a chuckle out of Manatee Flatulence. hey, everybody toots!
I can’t wait until I’ve been doing this long enough to have some good ones! What means do you use to find this out?
Happy TT!
I’ve done this, too, and it’s always fun. Though the first time I did it, I was humbled. People didn’t flock to my blog in droves for my insightful political commentary or cogent pop culture observations. No, because I did a post about Principal Secret discontinuing my favorite moisturizer! (Thanks for visiting my TT)
Manatee flatulence. That is hilarious.
I’m curious how you check that out too, it’d be interesting!
Yay for lots of comments!
For those on WordPress, you can easilly check the stats through your control panel.
For those on blogspot or other blogs, it all depends on whether you have a built-in stat counter available to you or not. There are a number of third party sites that will collate data for you - I think my wife used to use one simply called Statcounter. Google should help you out!
Thanks for visiting The Pink Flamingo. Have you seen Indiana Jones yet? I have!
