Hobby League: Universal Weapons

May 20, 2008

With Marvel Universe on the horizon, it’s not a bad idea to be mindful of greater forces at work in the cosmos.

This week we see previews of Annihilus and his Negative Zone cronies, representative of the Annihilation Wave and all the havoc it wreaked, before it was trounced by the combined might of some of Marvel’s coolest space-borne characters - heroes and villains both.

As cool as it was seeing Nova finally develope into a top-of-the-line character, the highights for me of the whole Annihilation even were in watching Ronan and the Super Skrull be more than bit players in cosmic events. Damn, but I’d love to get my hands on the Ronan Build-A-Figure. Heh.

The reason for all of this rambling the Silver Random Punks event. As usual, my indecisive nature is running rampant, and I’m left wondering what to play.

Right now, I’m toying with a deck that is thematically out-of-this-world, and rather appropriate in light of the Secret Invasion.

Yup, Skrulls.

With the revelation that Black Bolt is/was a Skrull, I’m tossing in Inhumans as well.

And finally, just because there’s no single deck that can’t be made just that much better with his inclusion, I’m splashing in Ronan the Accuser. Let’s face it, he’s just yummy… you know, for a green-clad, blue-skinned quasi-benevolent tyrant.

The lack of character tutors (I’m not including Lockjaw in that statement) could be a problem, especially considering I’m also strongly tempted to look back at MXM since this’ll be the last event we can run stuff from that set with Silver legality. Then there’s Darkseid’s Elite, who served me so well in previous Build A Legend events, and I’m thinking there’s potential for a Random Punks legal MKKO as well…

Anyway, tonight’s focus is the definitely not humans deck. I’m writing this before HL, so any results will have to wait until tomorrow’s update.

Be good now, y’all… you never know when some creepy guy in a red trenchcoat will stare at you intently from the shadows.
