March Madness: Round Five Results

April 6, 2008

March MadnessDear Lord, we’re almost done! Only two matches in round five, the victors of which go on to face each other for the title of Immortal Champion (though I freely admit that they aren’t really Immortal… not even the memory, since we’ll probably forget all about this stuff once the MUN previews start… Ah well, it’s been a fun run while it lasted….)

Gah! Too maudlin! Results! Read that, Solja Boi!

Kree win over Checkmate
One of the joys of this tournament has been never knowing who’ll end up piloting which deck - whether it’ll be a competitive control-addict, a casual left-fielder, a pirate, a hula dancer, or someone who has never even played the team before. Checkmate ran afoul of this little quirk, falling into the hands of the lovely Gamerette, who unfortunately, prior to this, didn’t know her Ahmed from her Alan Scott. That said, the peanut gallery was shouting tips and passing advice when they could.
Hunting out their locations by the dozen wasn’t as helpful as it could have been, with Kona Lor and Dylon Cir replacing them into characters (Yay!) and pushing the game to turn six, when Shatterax led the weenie charge and Hala gave everyone the chance at having a healthy +5 pump and the blue-skins ground the Kings into the mat. Kree advance to the finals!

The New Brotherhood win over Green Lantern Corp
Pablo sez: This was not a contest at all. GLC wants to swing up the curve for bonuses, but that is a pointless exercise against TNB. To make matters worse, the Brotherhood characters are just bigger. I could have scooped as of turn 4, but the integrity of the tournament kept me in play. And it hurt.
