Thursday 13 #13: Glimpse of Reality

It’s the thirteenth Thursday Thirteen. That means I’ve thus far spent twelve weeks rambling on about VS and comic characters, but at no point actually given you anything of substance.

For the Thirteenth edition, i thought I’d change that, and actually show you something real.

You see, the number 13 has always been, for lack of a better term, lucky for me. Odd, considering its usual reputation, but there you have it. As such, I think it’s only fitting that we celebrate this most auspiscious list with a little something special.

I’m blessed to have in my life a lovely and talented wife. She’s a digital warrior, her weapon of choice having a lens and a shutter and a whole bunch of widgets I won’t even pretend to understand. If she tells me the ISO’s too high, I just smile and nod. One day I’ll learn, but for now the magical world of photography is as alien to me, as the world of VS is to her.

Hobby League: Misdemeanours

Ladies and Gentlelost, you’ve borne with me for the entire month, and for that I thank you. This marks the last post of what has, for both myself and Runaway, been a labour of love. Or at least mild infatuation.

Crime Lords Month has been entertaining to write and participate in, I hope you enjoyed it from the other side of the keyboard just as much as I enjoyed it from this side.

To bring the proceedings to a close with a little squeak of the door, I present to you a hobby league report. See, this post goes up for people to read over their coffee on Wednesday morning, the last day of April… and as all the dedicated Lost out there know, late Tuesday night I write the Hobby League wrap-up. So sue me, it’s convenient to knock both out in one hit.

Pasta + Wine + VS = Win

Spotted this over on Kamiza’s ever-luvverly forums. It looks like the Italians are following in the shoes of the Poms and having their own Unofficial VS Nationals on May 18th.

Let me repeat that in a slightly more visual manner, to make sure nobody missed it.

Dazzler by Melanie Espinola

Well, now that RanmaSolo’s thrown down the gauntlet, the only option is to retaliate in kind! If he’s gonna post a pic of Dazzler, then darn it, I’m gonna too!

This was drawn (in blue ballpoint pen nonetheless), inked, coloured, and shamelessly doused in glitter for me by the ever-talented Melanie Espinola, presented in person at last year’s Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF).

Crime Lords Month: Walking Tall

It’s only fitting that for one of the entries of Lost Hemisphere’s contributions to Crime Lords Month, that we take a look at the one D-list character that it has been my delight and joy to adhere to in a very fanboyish manner.

Wilbur Day, otherwise known as Stilt-Man.

I could hunt down data from Wikipedia, Marvel, SamRuby,  ComicTreadmill, Spiderfan, Daredevil Villains, Comicvine, even the Filing Cabinet … but what with you all being good loyal Lost, I’m sure your cerebellums are already overflowing with knowledge concering everyone’s favourite 40-foot tall dude in a chrome suit. That said, I really do recommend clicking the Filing Cabinet link, it’s hilarious…

Thursday 13 #12: Thirteen Attack

Apologies for the lateness of this week’s T13. Normally I try to have it posted Wednesday night, so it’s there for perusal on Thursdays, but heck, I guess I got carried away with M.O.D.O.K. goodness yesterday as part of Lost Hemisphere’s ongoing Crime Lords Month. Of amusement, that was the 100th entry on the Lost Hemisphere.

On with the show! After last week’s listing of VS character cards with 13 DEF, it’s time to flip the coin over and look at those with 13 ATK. The list of potential cards is much shorter, and saddly for the female readers there’s less characters representing the fairer sex, but nonetheless…

To celebrate this fact, let’s kick it off with a testosterone-laden machismo-exuding DC fan favourite.

 

Crime Lords Month: Armies of Darkness

 

After Speedy92286’s Red Skull article, my mind was left a-pondering about the expanding concept of what exactly fits into the Crime Lords team affiliation.

With their original release the Crime Lords represented those opposed to Marvel’s street-level heroes. Nothing on a cosmic scale, pretty much limited to organised crime – mafia, yakuza, that sort of thing, represented by the Kingpin’s goons and the Hand.

Then MTU gave us a Red Skull proudly bearing the Crime Lords affiliation.

Now, colour me skeptical, but I have difficulty seeing the Red Skull as the head of an organised crime syndicate. His operations are definitely more on a national or global scale.

This then brings up the question of what exactly one would associate with the Crime Lords, that justifies that sort of presence. Clearly, we’re going to have to think outside of the traditional Crime Lords box, and since Red Skull’s the primary evidence of a broader paradigm here, the answer is simple… and green.

Behold, the insanity spreads! Crime Lords Month continues to rock your socks – yes, yours! Check ‘em right now, you’ll see them rocking! If they’re not, it’s only through sheer force of will, as they try not to reveal their sentience to you.

It was only a matter of time before Speedy92286 (not to be confused with Beverly Hills 90210) succumbed to the lure of Crime Lords Month, and took to the keyboard with a fire not unlike something hot and burny.
