March Madness Deckcheck: Teen Titans

Apparently Spud didn’t feel the need to put in an introductory paragraph, so I’ll take the moment to give a big thanks to Rian “stubarnes” Fike for the shout-out at VSSyestem.com, affectionately termed The Mothership, in his new weekly article, Rallying Cry!
It’s high praise indeed to be recognised as “The meatiest, most magnificent blog of the group”. Of course, this just means Lost Hemisphere has a big target on its head for all the other blogs to aim at… bring it on! Let the VS Revolution continue! Aaaand…. on with Spud’s deckcheck.

I went with the Cosmic Substitute build because:
a) It’s the only one I have any real experience with, and
b) I hate the Roy Abuse build. With a fiery passion.
c) Cosmic substitute = fun.
So, yeah. I went with the build I enjoy instead of the ridicubroken one, but that doesn’t mean the deck’s a pile of crap. It’s a pretty solid powerhouse once it gets going– It has game against rush, curve, stall, whatever. About the only problem I’ve run into is that it’s hard to deal with a largely concealed board, but even that isn’t a huge issue, since it just means more team attacks to the face. I do miss Timber Wolf from my usual build (Boosted on 4, it lets you get out a 3 and then sub in a 2 on top of him), but other than that, this is just trims on counts from my usual deck.
Key players:
- Vic Stone on 3 rocks for taking out hidden and protected weenies. Fun stuff: team two 1s into a 3 to kill another 3.
- Mia on 2, combined with Kid Devil, makes attacking into your board a really frustrating proposition in the first few turns.
- I usually try for a win on 6, with Freddy Freeman teaming in with some random 1, and then repeatedly readying to smash out all their visible guys. Once the board’s open, the rest of the weenies kick in for the kill.
Titans have already picked up a win in their first-round game against a difficult matchup (all-concealed is a pain in the ass), and I expect them to continue to do well in the coming rounds. A decent draw– Rose Wilson, Bette Kane ~ Batwoman and The Herald, most notably– will let them stymy the New Brotherhood’s attack step enough to “stall” to 6 and crush. At least, in theory. ![]()
