The final part of my response to OrangeSodaMan’s challenge is completed. I’ve appended it to my main entry at VSRealms; now I can get to work on the fantasy cards for my end of the challenge!
The final part is below the split for those who are following via the blog.

Well, all I can say is “Hot damn!”.
Lost Hemisphere has had its most ever hits over a 24 hour period, with 191 views since the Composite Superheroine contest went up!
Welcome to all the newly Lost, and thanks for swinging by! I encourage you to post comments, since it swells my ego and then my enormous head gets to loom over my wife while I chuckle incessantly.
In order to make it official, Lost Hemisphere has adopted a new spokesalien in everyone’s favourite horse-faced pseudo-alien-demigod, Beta Ray Bill!

Exceedingly large amounts of props to Scott Derby for this superb Beta Ray Bill logo… you know as well as I do that it’d make a freakin’ awesome tattoo…
Much love must also go to Steve at The Kamiza for developing a hub for the current outcropping of VS blogs. Even though he’s a pom, he’s not a bad bloke
You can use that button over there – yes, that’s it, the one with Bill giving you a direct order, soldier! – to vote for Lost Hemisphere at the VS System Network. Bill would be ever so pleased if you did.
One note on the Composite Superheroine contest: A partial entry is better than no entry at all…

The Composite Superheroine Contest
For this week’s Thursday Thirteen I thought I’d try a little something different.
I’m not going to give you a list of thirteen things.
Rather, I’m going to give you this image, comprised of pieces of thirteen different superheroines that are features in the VS System card game.
Over the course of the next week, I’ll be accepting email submissions at gdaybloke@SPAMcogeco.ca (No spam, of course) and PM’s at VS Realms.
Those who can correctly identify all thirteen superheroines, including the original card’s name and version, shall be entered into a pool; one of those lucky sods shall receive as a reward for their diligence a copy of the first place prize for the recent DCL Build-A-Legend event, Parallax: Embodiment of Fear, with juicy art by Jonboy Meyers. Should no-one have all the answers, the pool will be made of all those with the most correct answers. In other words, a partial entry is better than no entry at all…
The winner will be announced in next week’s Thursday Thirteen.
Have fun!

Woot! Woot Wooty Woot Woot! Dancey dancey dance dance, shimmy shimmy wootage!
…. (*cough*)
In case you didn’t gather, from either the post title or the above shenanigans, Darkseid fought his way to a win in the DC Legends Build-A-Legend marquee event tonight! I can’t really express how giddy I am with glee over this. Not only is it rather uncommon for me to fare this well in a tourney, it was a bloody marquee! I got the damn shirt without having to hope for a door prize! (*bounce bounce bounce*)
…. okay, enough of that. (*bounce*)
…. okay, NOW enough of that.
The deck I ran was pretty much the one I posted a few days back, with a couple of minor variances: (continued after split) Read the rest of this entry ?

It’s Sunday afternoon. Tuesday night is the DCL Build A Legend event at the Hobby Kingdom. Which Legend deck will I be playing?
I’m still undecided.
You may recall my posting last Sunday about being torn between playing Darkseid or Ghost Rider? Well, it hasn’t gotten any better.
For the MVL Build A Legend event I played Family of Four, so my only restriction (self-imposed, I admit) is that I don’t want to play the same deck this time around.
Unfortunately, while sorting out decks, there are now five options on the block. Thus, it’s time for a nice rambling post, five decklists, and a general mutter about my being an indecisive twit.
Though personally, I’m amused that three of the five Legend characters have flames in their concept.

Managed to get some time in writing last night, finished three of the four portions of OrangeSodaMan’s challenge. For your reading pleasure… after the split of course, it’s a looong post.

One of the primary appeals for me in VS is cool card art. I love me some good art, I hate me some bad art. And yes, I’m fully aware that “good” and “bad” are subjective terms when it comes to art.
For example, I’m not a fan of a lot of Arthur Suydam’s art. It tickles some folk’s fancy, and it’s definitely a good pick for all the Marvel Zombies stuff, but by and large it’s not my cup of tea.
Thus, for this Thursday Thirteen, I present in no particular order thirteen reasons why Jonboy Meyers is one of my favourite artists producing cards for the VS System trading card game.
Why Jonboy? I’m a Marvel fanboy through and through. By and large I couldn’t care less about most DC characters… or at least, I used to think like that, until I discovered Jonboy’s Manhunter art in the DGL expansion. The art alone made me want to play them as a team, and also inspired me to find out who the smeg they were.
In all cases, larger (and clearer) images can be found at Jonboy’s own site and blog.

Next week we hold our DCL Build-A-Legend event. I’ve been vacillating back and forth regarding which deck to run. So, what’s the smartest thing to do at Hobby League, my last chance to do any real testing?
DLS draft!!!!!

Nothing says playtesting like drafting from an older set!
CaptainSpud had picked up two boxes of DLS from CoolStuffInc at a reasonable price, and brought them with him to engage in cardy shenanigans. The obvious thing to do was to split into pods, draft ‘em out, and see what we ended up with.
For the record, both boxes yielded a Mobilize, so Spud got his money’s worth right there… Read the rest of this entry ?

VS
One more week of testing before we hold the DCL Build A Legend event.
On the one hand I have my Darkseid deck. Though completely devoid of Created From Hate’s (I don’t own any), I’m able to sub in some search with Mobilize, Heroes of Two Worlds, and Call In A Favor. It manages the opponent’s resource row pretty well, and with substitute bringing in all the Mockeries it’s looking pretty solid.
On the other hand I have the Ghost Rider deck I’ve been fiddling with. The impetus for this one is split between the desire to actually have an effective Ghost Rider Legend deck, and to have a deck that doesn’t need my Mobilizes, so I can lend them to Gamerette for her Superman Legend deck (she doesn’t own any For The Man Who Has Everything’s).
The GR deck is MK/Fan4 team-up, and testing has shown me it basically works. As long as I have odds, then the 5-drop Fan4 GR can get a stun with no stunback, and then I can get a revenge hit with Chain of Vengeance. That basically won a game for me against a Fated-up Punisher this evening, when my opponent recovered her 6-drop instead of Punisher.
So here I am with a little over a week left to get in any testing I can, and I’m still torn between decks. One doesn’t have its optimum search card, the other allows me to lend key search cards to another player with a less extensive collection of cards.
And then, of course, there’s Family of Four, Punisher, Nova Blast, Dr Strange, and any other number of Legend decks floating around the periphery of my consciousness.
I’m such an indecisive bastard…

Due to some wierd and inexplicable twist of cosmic fate, I’m a finalist! It’s down to me and OrangeSodaMan, and this time we each had to design the challenges ourselves. Whatever we decided on, we both have to complete.
The challenges:
Obstacle Orange:
I challenge you to go through for each of the previous rounds, and to pick an entree of a person that was eliminated and revamp it. For each round. Example, Doomstat for round one, saying why his card chosen is so important. TDB for the semifinals, using a deck and elaborating on a personal story etc. Key thing is to choose someone ELIMINATED (Don’t pick TDB’s first round submission since he made it past round one).
Now, this is going to be impossible to do exactly, so use your judgment to determine how to proceed; this doesn’t have to be perfect. But. The closer the better right? Just to elaborate – these are in your words. for example, say you wanted to do doomstat for round one – you would write a new story saying why his card choice (now yours) is so great. This should be a fun challenge for us and those who were previously LotR contenders.
Obstacle gday:
It’s only fitting that these two competitors take a good look at their opponent and, once they see past the three-day stubble, come to terms with the fact the person standing before them is the last obstacle to be overcome.
Make your opponent into a Legend.
Design a minimum of four fantasy cards. At least one of these must be a character card, at least two of these must be non-character cards (ie, Plot Twists, Equipment, Locations).
Participants are allowed to confer with their opponent in order to obtain inspiration and/or art for the cards should they choose to provide images.
The challenge can be viewed as either knowing thine enemy, recognizing the gifts of another, or even just an opportunity to poke some fun. It’s still a game, after all.
So… I may be a little quiet in my VS blogging this week while I try to put together my entries…
